That “local” auto transport company on Google Maps may not actually be real

Fake and misleading Google Maps listings can make an auto transport company appear to be a real business in your city when the location may not be what it appears to be. We look up the listing, the address, the business identity, and public records — so consumers can see what can, and cannot, be independently verified.

Address verification first

The core question of every lookup: is the presence represented by this Google Maps listing real and supported by independently verifiable information?

● Check the pin● Verify the address● Match the USDOT● Compare the phone● Confirm the authority● Search before you ship● Report suspicious listings

What we look for in a listing

Unverifiable address

The listed address is a mailbox store, vacant lot, or someone else's office.

Wrong business at the address

The company actually registered at the address is a different business.

FMCSA record conflict

The federal registration shows a physical address in another state.

Unusual review pattern

Large bursts of five-star reviews from brand-new profiles.

A Google Maps pin doesn't prove an auto transport company is real

Anyone can create a Google Business Profile with an address in your city. Google does not require proof that a business actually operates from the address shown. You can check for yourself:

  1. 1Search the exact address shown on the Google listing — who else is registered there?
  2. 2Check the address on Street View: is there a real office or terminal, or a mailbox store?
  3. 3Look up the company's USDOT and MC numbers in FMCSA's public records and compare the physical address.
  4. 4Call the listed phone number and ask for the street address of the office shown on the listing.
  5. 5Search the state business registry for the legal name behind the listing.

Listing map

Where looked-up listings claim to be. Red pins: listing not verified as real or under review. Navy pins: verified or corrected. A pin shows the location the listing claims — not where any business actually operates.
